Each model will feature unique "sound signatures" tailored to its characteristics.
Ferrari's inaugural electric vehicle is slated for a late 2025 debut. While the company is keeping key details closely guarded in Maranello, CEO Benedetto Vigna disclosed on CNBC's Squawk Box Europe that the emphasis on styling and performance will remain paramount in their battery-electric vehicles. He assured that Ferrari's EVs will retain the brand's "unique" feel.
Vigna emphasized that "electric cars are not silent" and reiterated Ferrari's commitment to crafting distinct "sound signatures" for its models. The company even secured a patent for an EV exhaust note in 2023. Vigna expressed excitement about the possibilities afforded by this technology, acknowledging that it will enable Ferrari to innovate further.
Furthermore, Vigna acknowledged that Ferrari's clientele prioritizes emotion over functionality, allowing the company to focus on delivering the "emotion" of its luxury cars above all else to its discerning customers.
The CEO, who took the helm at Ferrari in 2021, said he's confident the company can still deliver a special driving experience by harnessing the technology "in a unique way."
As Ferrari progresses into its electrified era, it remains committed to investing in combustion engines. Alongside this transition, the company is set to inaugurate a new production facility in June, located in Maranello, dedicated to manufacturing battery packs, electric motors, and power inverters.
CEO Benedetto Vigna expressed his belief that combustion engines will persist in the luxury car market, coexisting with hybrids and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). Despite the shift towards electrification, Ferrari aims to electrify 60 percent of its lineup by 2026.
Moreover, Vigna highlighted e-fuel as a viable alternative capable of sustaining combustion engines while reducing harmful emissions, aligning with the objectives of many governments worldwide.
